Wanderlust

"You road I enter upon and look around! I believe you are not all that is here; I believe that much unseen is also here." (Song of the Open Road, Walt Whitman)
Ever since I was little I had a hard time staying still. Call it curiosity or call it an overactive imagination... either way I was an explorer.

I have wanted to travel for as long as I can remember but never had the opportunity to pack up my bags and just leave. Every time I think of leaving on a big trip, my mind goes into overdrive:
"Where should I go?"
"Do I have the money for this?"
"Will I be safe?"
"Who will go with me?"

By this time something either comes up, or I have already scared myself enough that I just forget about the trip. I can't help it, I am a planner. I like having everything organized and laid out in front of me because then I can begin to make sense of this endless chaos that is my mind. This is why spontaneous trips are so difficult for me. Even when I want to do something spontaneous...I end up planning how to get there and who is coming...and how much it will cost. All I want to do is pack up and leave. Where? I do not care. Who with? Anyone, Everyone..or just myself. How long? Who the hell knows. How much it will cost: Hopefully enough for me to handle. If not...well I will figure it out when I get to that point.

I am a strong believer that the best experiences happen when you do something spontaneous and forget the planning involved. John Lennon once said that "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans". I do not want to be making plans and missing out on life. Forget planning. I want to enjoy life!

This year is going to be different. I have the opportunity to travel to Europe for an extended amount of time (1 year and a bit) to work, study on exchange and travel around. I hope to make the best of this time and you better believe that I will not waste one minute of my journey.

It is as simple as this. If you want to travel, then travel. Don't think about it, or just dream about it like I did for so long, because if you delay yourself for too long, then you are missing out on the best experiences. Time waits for no one and you are not an exception. Pack up your bags and buy a ticket on the next available flight and just GO. No one is stopping you except yourself.

Don't feel convinced yet? Then read this Blog. Jeff Goins takes the words right out of my mouth and if you aren't ready to jump on a plane after you read this then you are truly missing out.

So pack your bags
Take a trip
Stop planning you're life for one moment
And just LIVE.
You will not regret it.
At least I don't...
